Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils rinsed
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 handful cilantro chopped, for garnish

Instructions 

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for another minute.
  3. Add the turmeric, cumin, and coriander powders. Stir well to combine.
  4. Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are soft.
  5. Season with salt to taste. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
